Aaron Rodgers only has two years left on his current contract, the one he and the Green Bay Packers have been feverishly working on as of late (in the hopes to keep the future Hall of Fame gunslinger in the land of cheese). NBC's Peter King talked to Aaron Rodgers on a golf course, and now he is convinced that Rodgers wants to break the mold in his next contract.

King appearing on Good Morning Football on NFL Network on Monday talked about how he thinks that Rodgers wants to negotiate a deal that will continue to rise in comparison to how much the salary cap rises.

“I believe, and I believe strongly, he wants to break the mold. This is me speaking, this is not Aaron Rodgers,” King said. “He wants to break the mold and he would like to see his contract tied in some way to the rising tide of the salary cap.”

Rodgers also had told King that he was looking for a contract that could help the team be competitive, but would also give him more freedom to up his salary.

“I think that there’s some merit to looking into where you do a non-traditional contractual agreement,” Rodgers said. “If anybody at this point is gonna be able to do something like that, I think there needs to be a conversation about it. I never said anything about [tying the contract to] the cap. I just think there’s ways to do contracts where you can still be competitive so the team is happy about it, but have some more freedom.”

Many believed that Kirk Cousins was changing the game signing a fully guaranteed contract, but maybe Rodgers next contract is really going to be the next game changer. The Packers and Rodgers are still trying to get a deal done, but there is no question at some point the deal is going to get done.
