The Green Bay Packers have done a solid job of re-tooling the offense this NFL offseason. Running back Ty Montgomery is hoping to play a vital role on the team now that he is healthy.

Montgomery's versatile skill set makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. According to Mike Spofford of the team's official website, he is hoping to take advantage of it in the 2018 NFL season.

“Mismatches and big plays, that’s what I want to bring to this offense,” Montgomery said as the Packers wrapped up their offseason program. “When I’m in the game, I want to affect the game. I want to affect the personnel that’s out there. I want to affect the defense.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to his comments. Montgomery entered the league as a wide receiver before a rash of injuries to the backfield forced the Packers to plug him in at running back. However, his potential as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield has Green Bay excited.

Unfortunately, his 2017 campaign was hampered by a lingering rib injury. As a result, Montgomery was limited to just 71 carries for 273 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. His injury made way for running back Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones to take over the bulk of the carries. He will face some stiff competition now that both were able to show they were capable of handling the workload.

Head coach Mike McCarthy has indicated that he will go with whichever running back has their rhythm that day. However, there is a good chance that Montgomery will be the first to do so considering how enamored McCarthy is with what h brings to the table.
