Cam Newton wants to world to know that it was not his decision to seek a trade from the Carolina Panthers. After the Panthers announced on Instagram that they were allowing Newton to look for a trade, Newton commented on the post saying that he never sought a trade.

“Stop with the word play!! I never asked for it!! There is no dodging this one, I love the Panthers to death and will always love you guys!! Please do not try and play me or manipulate the narrative and act like this, you forced me into this!!”

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said in a statement that they had come to this conclusion after talking to Newton and his representation but no matter what happens, he will always be a Carolina Panther in their heart.

“One of the distinct pleasures of my career was selecting Cam with the first pick in the 2011 draft,” Hurney said. “Every year difficult decisions are made and they are never easy. We have been working with Cam and his agent to find the best fit for him moving forward and he will always be a Carolina Panther in our hearts.”

It doesn't appear at this point, that there is a trade on the horizon, but there are some teams who need a quarterback. One team that could make sense is the New England Patriots, especially after Tom Brady announced he would be playing for a new team next season. Even though there is nothing on the horizon right now, this is something that could come through quickly.
