Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton couldn't help but to admit that he enjoyed catching Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews off guard.

For those missing context, here is video of Clay Matthews calling out what he believes to be the play the Panthers are running, with Cam Newton calling BS on the talented linebacker:

I’m mad they didn’t see me and C-Mac’s reaction to when he said that,” Newton said, via David Newton of ESPN.com. “It was funny. You could hear it clear as day, ‘Watch the wheel route, watch the wheel route.’

“Then there was, like, a pause, and the referee was right there, and I’m looking at C-Mac, C-Mac is looking back up at me, and we’re like, ‘Yeah, it’s the wheel route.”’

C-Mac, for the uninitiated, is Christian McCaffery.

Newton then discussed having to change some signals, as he doesn't want teams to start catching on to the team's tendencies.

“You can guarantee one thing about it, we’ll have a new signals meeting a couple times this week,” Newton said. “We don’t want the Buccaneers to get any ideas.”

Anyway, that was an actual funny moment in a football game. Clay Matthews was on the wrong end of the joke, but it happens to the best of us.
