The Carolina Panthers' 2021 campaign got even worse on Sunday as they were absolutely clobbered by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, losing 32-6. It was their fifth loss in a row which dropped them to a dismal 5-10 on the year.

Following the game, Cam Newton gave a heartfelt reaction to the Panthers' struggles and his future in the NFL:

“Football has been good to me,” Newton said. “I was able to walk away unscathed. I know it sounds like I'm retiring, but it's been great memories. I do think about as we move forward that it takes more than one guy, it takes more than one talent, it takes more than a couple of guys.

“It takes unanimously everyone understanding what their role is and what they have to do. I'm just so let down because the city of Charlotte and the Panthers have been good to me, you know, when i first got here, there was a lot of uncertainty to how long I would be here, and this second go around is just unfortunate because you put so much work into finding ways to win and when it doesn't happen, Right now, you feel empty. You feel like damn, are you good enough?”

Newton hasn't exactly impressed since running it back with the Panthers after Sam Darnold injured his shoulder in Week 9. The veteran signal-caller has just a 54.8% completion rate, throwing for five interceptions and four touchdowns in six games. On Sunday, Newton went just 7 for 13 for 61 yards as Darnold ended up playing a lot more.

It also doesn't help the Panthers have been without star running back Christian McCaffrey for most of the season. That's certainly a huge blow to the offense.

With Carolina out of the playoff picture, it will be interesting to see what the next move will be for Cam Newton. But considering how he played with the franchise this time around, it seems unlikely he returns. Nevertheless, he is evidently thankful for the memories.
