After their heartbreaking 31-26 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday in the Wild Card Round, the Carolina Panthers have decided to do an overhaul of their offensive coaching staff. According to a press release on the team's official website, offensive coordinator Mike Shula and quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey were both fired on Tuesday.

As for the vacant offensive coordinator position, a tweet on Tuesday from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said that the Panthers are planning to interview Norv Turner.

For the 2017 season, Carolina finished 19th in total offense (323.7), fourth in rushing offense (131.4), 28th in passing yards (192.3), and 12th in points scored per game (22.7).

Turner's days as an NFL offensive coordinator go all the way back to his 1991-93 tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, where he won back-to-back Super Bowl titles under legendary head coach Jimmy Johnson.

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, who recently received a two-year contract extension from the team through the 2020 season, was the defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers from 2008-10 while Turner served as the team's head coach from 2007-12.

Per a tweet posted on Tuesday from Steve Reed of The Associated Press:

“It is about growth and this football team has room to grow,” coach Rivera said on Tuesday during a press conference with the media.

Turner has also served as offensive coordinator for the Chargers (2001), Miami Dolphins (2002-2003), Oakland Raiders (2004-2005), San Francisco 49ers (2006), Cleveland Browns (2013), and the Minnesota Vikings (2014-2016). From 1994-2000, Turner was also the head coach of the Washington Redskins.

If the Panthers do indeed decide to hire Turner, he should at the very least bring a ton of NFL experience to the table.
