In the last several weeks, the health of Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton has become a prominent topic of conversation around him and the organization.

This is even more the case with Newton being shut down for the final two games of the regular season due to a nagging shoulder injury. It is a situation that has thrown more criticism toward the former league MVP that running back Christian McCaffrey has been bothered by that chatter, according to Max Henson of Panthers.com.

“I hate to see all the negative stuff going (Cam’s) way, because if people really knew what he was going through, they’d bite their tongue a little bit. He’s been a true champion, to push through what he’s pushed through and also know when to give it to the next guy.”

It has become an issue that Newton has been dealing with throughout the year that has only been further compounded with the Panthers' struggles having lost their last six straight games played that has pushed them almost entirely out of the playoff picture. Much of that has seen a lot of the talk directed at Newton's struggles throwing the ball effectively as being a primary reason for the team's shortcomings.

Although there is much credence to his play impacting his team's amount of success on the field, these comments from McCaffrey suggest that Newton is dealing with an injury that could be far worse than what's being let on publicly. The 30-year-old has continued to speak about the difficulty he has had throwing the ball during the course of the week heading into each game.

Ultimately, it is a situation that should have more clarity once the season is over and the extent of the injury that Newton is dealing with is revealed. Until then, it's clear that his teammates have his back.
