Cam Newton's debut with the New England Patriots is in the books and it ended with Bill Belichick's squad getting a win.

Following New England's opening season win, Belichick uttered that Newton has been “great” for the Patriots thus far, per NFL Network's Mike Giardi.

When the Patriots were closing out training camp, they named Newton the starting quarterback for Week 1. At the same time, they named him one of the team's offensive captains. That goes to show the confidence Belichick and Newton's teammates had in him in his short time with the franchise.

In his debut in Foxborough on Sunday, Newton was extremely efficient, completing 15 of his 19 attempts for 155 yards. He would also lead the team in rushing, carrying the ball 15 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

There's no doubt the offense looked mightily different with Newton at the helm instead of Tom Brady. While Newton performed well in his first start for the Patriots, Belichick knows that the former NFL MVP hasn't scratched the surface yet.

The most important aspect of Newton's debut was that New England was able to come away with a victory over the Miami Dolphins. Nonetheless, it was still a positive sight to see Newton playing quarterback again and excelling in an offense.

Next week, the Patriots will travel to the Northwest to square off against the Seattle Seahawks. Given that, Newton is going to have to be even better under center in Week 2. With that being said, Belichick is pleased with the results that Newton has produced thus far.
