New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick recently won yet another Super Bowl trophy, and his eye for detail has never gone unnoticed. Not only is Belichick attentive to what's happening on the field, but other factors such as the roof of Mercedes-Benz Stadium were a big concern as well. The longtime Patriots coach wanted the roof closed due to the wind factor, and rightfully so.

His conversation with the officiating crew was documented by NFL Films, via PFT:

“John, now we’re closing the roof, right?,” Belichick asked Parry.“Yeah. It’s supposed to be closed right at kickoff,” Parry replied.

“What’s that mean? Before kickoff?” “Belichick asked.

“No. They wanted to try to time the kickoff with the oculus closing,” Parry said. “I’m going to delay it a little bit. I would prefer that the roof be completely closed.”

“Because there’s a wind factor now,” said Belichick.

“As soon as the flyover goes, It starts to close. How long it takes… I think it’s less than eight minutes,” Parry answered.

Just when the issue seemed to be resolved, Belichick was further concerned about the roof being closed for the game:

“OK. It takes eight minutes to close it. They’re going to close it after the flyover. I don’t know if it’s going to be closed or not so why don’t we just kick that way. If we get it, we get it. If we don’t, we don’t.”

Unfortunately for the Rams, it's likely the roof would never have been a factor because the Patriots looked like a unbelievable force this past Sunday. New England can never be taken lightly as long as Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady are around, and they have proven to overcome adversity for years.
