There has been much speculation on what Cam Newton is going to look like in his first season with the New England Patriots. In a survey conducted by The Athletic's Mike Sando, NFL coaches and executives placed the league's quarterbacks into tiers. While some had positive comments about Newton, an anonymous coach stated that Newton ‘isn't Superman anymore'.

“I don’t think he is Superman anymore,” a coach who placed Newton in the third tier said. “Remember when (Colin) Kaepernick became vegan, changed his body and he just wasn’t as dynamic of an athlete anymore? Cam was 265 and bigger than everybody. He looks skinny now like he is 235 and wants to have ripped abs, and that’s his choice. Is he going to have that power running element?”

In Newton's first seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers, he was one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in NFL history. The larger-than-life quarterback would prove to be a headache for opposing defenses to slow down.

He was able to pick apart teams with his arm and he could bulldoze his way into the end zone with his legs given his unique size for a quarterback. However, injuries have taken a toll on Newton in the last two seasons. Altogether, the former NFL MVP has missed 16 games since 2018 due to shoulder and foot ailments.

The injuries — especially the one to his foot — has caused him to take a different approach to his diet and workout program. Since signing with the Patriots, Newton has shown that he's in peak shape for the upcoming season.

There's no doubt that Newton was already as motivated as ever after joining New England. But with coaches and executives writing him off, you can best believe that the former No. 1 pick has something to prove this season.
