The New England Patriots surprised everyone by releasing Cam Newton on Tuesday. The move has opened up the door for rookie Mac Jones to slide in as the starting quarterback.

Following the news, Cam Newton responded to the decision.

Newton doesn't want anyone feeling sorry for him and reiterated that he's all good following his release from the Patriots.

It's admirable that Newton still used his go to font even for a post like this. Give the dude his props for that.

It will be intriguing to see who will take a flier or scoop up the now former Patriots quarterback. There's no doubt Newton likely believes he is still a starting quarterback in the NFL however, his only route for the immediate future might be to take a backup gig for this upcoming season.

With the regular season a little more than a week away, most teams have cemented in plans on who their QB1 will be. It could leave Newton on the outside looking in unless he's willing to hold a clipboard for a bit.

For the Patriots, they are turning the keys to the car over to Mac Jones after selecting him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jones impressed enough to the point where the Patriots felt completely fine just cutting ties with Newton altogether.

There will be a lot of external expectations for Jones to ball out early as a new era is getting ushered into New England.
