It feels like ages ago, but New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels sent shockwaves across the league this offseason following his decision to turn his back on the Indianapolis Colts at the last minute after agreeing to become their head coach.

McDaniels hasn’t really addressed that incredible issue since it happened — until now. It doesn’t seem like the Patriots OC has any regrets about the highly controversial choice he made.

Per Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald:

McDaniels says he wants to be a head coach again. He’s “very happy with the decision” he made, staying as opposed to going to the Colts

The Colts eventually rallied and hired Frank Reich to be their head coach shortly after McDaniels’ stunning about-face. But they obviously weren’t thrilled with how it all went down, and they have every right to be displeased.

As for McDaniels, he gets to keep his job as Patriots offensive coordinator, which is looking much better with Tom Brady saying he still wants to play a few more years. Rob Gronkowski is also back for at least one more season, which should be enough to make them Super Bowl contenders once again.

McDaniels appears to be the front-runner to be Bill Belichick’s eventual successor as Patriots head coach when Belichick finally decides to retire. That likely played a significant part in him staying in New England.

McDaniels will have to hope he gets that New England job, though, because it’s unlikely he’ll get too many other head coaching offers around the league for a while following the stunt he pulled with the Colts.
