It has been another January filled with Josh McDaniels rumors about if he would leave the New England Patriots for a head coaching job. After there was a lot of talk about McDaniels maybe teaming up Aaron Rodgers and becoming a head coach of the Green Bay Packers, he announced on Tuesday that he would not be taking any more head coaching interviews and will be returning to the Patriots next year.

“The book is closed.”

“I'm completely focused on the Chargers and our season, finishing strong, and I'll be here moving forward.”

Last offseason, McDaniels had agreed to an agreement to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts before changing course and deciding to return to the Patriots. The Colts instead decided to hire Frank Reich and that has worked out well as they will also be playing this weekend.

There were also some rumors this offseason that McDaniels wanted to coach the Cleveland Browns and go back to his home state but now that seems to be off the table now.

The next big question now is what is McDaniels end goal now? There have to be some questions if McDaniels is trying to wait until Bill Belichick retires in hopes he will take over as coach of the Patriots.

For now, it's all about getting Tom Brady and the rest of the offense ready for a very good Los Angeles Chargers defense. He is going to need to have the best game plan ready against a defense that gave Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens all sorts of fits in their last game.
