It was announced on Thursday that Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes would star on the cover on Madden 22, marking the first time two players would be on it together since 2010. Brady’s former New England Patriots teammate Julian Edelman however, took to Twitter and reminded TB12 of his humble beginnings. Take a look at this:

As you can see, Brady didn’t even have a name in Madden 2000. He was literally referred to in the game as QB No. 12. It does stand to reason, though. The Patriots selected him in the sixth round in 1999 and he was basically an afterthought at the time behind the likes of Drew Bledsoe and John Friesz.

Boy, has he came a long way since. Brady won six Super Bowls with the Patriots then just won his seventh in 2020 in his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the process, the veteran has basically solidified himself as the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.

While being on the cover of Madden probably doesn’t mean a whole lot to the former Patriots star, it’s truly a wild story considering he was such a late draft pick. No one could’ve predicted Tom Brady would go on to have such a legendary career, that’s for sure. As for Edelman, he always likes to have some fun with his longtime friend and teammate. After all, he’s got extra time on his hands after retiring.
