Former team executive Mike Lombardi thinks that some of the concerns surrounding the New England Patriots may be warranted. The Patriots are coming off one of the toughest losses in recent memory after they gave up a 69-yard touchdown on a lateral play to end the game, which prevented them from clinching the AFC East.

But Lombardi is apparently concerned about more than just the loss in Miami.

He was a recent guest on The Ringer's GM Street podcast this week, and here's what he had to say about the Patriots, courtesy of Ryan Hannable of WEEI.

“I think you have to be concerned with the Patriots,” he said. “They are in the same uniform, but this is not your same 2014, ’15, ’16 Patriots. This is the Patriots team that right now sits at 3-4 on the road. They have a below .500 record on the road. They haven’t had one of those in a long, long time. I think it shows because they are not as talented as a team. I think if Belichick gets this team to the conference championship game this year, I think it certainly would be one of his finest — I think in ’13 when he got that team to the conference championship was his finest coaching performance. I think if he gets this team to it this year, I think it would be one of his most amazing coaching performances.”

The road woes have certainly been problematic thus far, and the loss to the Dolphins only ramped up the worries even more.

However, the Patriots are still 9-4 on the season and figure to be right near the top of the AFC standings when the playoffs roll around. New England will return to action on Sunday to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
