Following the news that the Cleveland Browns were looking to move star wide receiver Josh Gordon ahead of releasing him on Monday that saw the New England Patriots into the picture.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Patriots have quickly completed a trade for Gordon in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round pick.

This is a low-risk move for the Patriots that could see them greatly benefit from the addition of Gordon at the cost of a late-round draft pick. There isn't a major financial commitment to just under $700 in salary for the 2018 campaign while he will also become a restricted free agent next year due to his lengthy suspension that cost him nearly three years of his career.

When healthy, Gordon has proven to be a high-impact player that can lead the receiving core with his explosive big-play ability that the Patriots drastically need. This was made blatantly obvious in the 31-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars as the Patriots struggling in the passing game with no wide receiver posting more than 50 receiving yards in the game. Chris Hogan was able to haul in a pair of touchdowns on three receptions for 42 receiving yards. However, he isn't nearly the caliber of talent that Gordon possesses.

There will be an adjustment period for him as he adapts to the Patriots' offensive scheme that is widely regarded as being one of the more complex in the league. However, he will have a chance to immediately make an impact as soon as he's able to take the field as he is a significant mismatch for opposing defensive backs. This could be his chance to prove he can be a major piece to the puzzle to a championship caliber team with the potential to be a legitimate No.1 receiving option for star quarterback Tom Brady this season and possibly beyond that.
