Just for a second, imagine a prime Tom Brady with a prime LaDainian Tomlinson.

If you are a New England Patriots fan, you just got giddy. If you are a fan of any of the other 31 teams in the NFL, you likely just got chills.

Apparently, it almost happened.

Tomlinson, who is now an analyst for NFL Network, told the story of how he was almost drafted by the Patriots back in 2001, via Henry McKenna of Patriots Wire.

“It makes me wish — I remember when I was coming out of college, I met with the Patriots,” Tomlinson said Wednesday. “I talked to Bill (Belichick) and Charlie Weis, who was an offensive coordinator. Charlie was like, ‘We’re drafting you if you’re there.’ Of course, the Chargers took me the pick before.”

Chargers fans probably aren't going to like to hear that. Or, what's left of Chargers fans in San Diego, as the Bolts played in San Diego throughout Tomlinson's entire nine-year tenure with the team.

“You think how things could have turned if I had gone to the Patriots,” he added.

During his prime, Tomlinson was one of the most dominant forces at halfback that the game has ever seen. In 2006, Tomlinson set the NFL record with 28 rushing touchdowns, also leading the league with 1,815 yards that season.

Tomlinson paced the NFL in yards twice and in rushing touchdowns three times, making five Pro Bowls and earning three First-Team All-Pro selections.

The TCU product played out the final two years of his NFL career with the New York Jets.
