Pending criminal charges against New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung have been dismissed on a conditional basis, but that doesn't mean he is out of the woods, as Chung is now awaiting NFL discipline after being indicted on a charge of cocaine possession in New Hampshire back in August, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Chung, who played the 2019 NFL campaign in spite of the trouble, must also remain on good behavior for two years and must submit to periodic drug testing at a laboratory on a schedule approved by the state, per the Belknap County Attorney.

In addition, Chung must perform 40 hours of community service related to drug abuse prevention and education, and it must be completed within 18 months.

Should Chung fail to comply with the conditions, the state has the right to reinstate the charges and prosecute him at the time.

The 32-year-old played in 13 games this season, logging 51 tackles and three passes defended.

Chung played his collegiate football at the University of Oregon and was originally selected by the Patriots in the second round (34th pick overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career in New England before joining the Philadelphia Eagles for one season in 2013. Chung then returned to the Pats the following year and has been a steady member of the club's secondary ever since, helping the Patriots win three Super Bowl championships along the way.

Chung is set to make $2.9 million in 2020 and is under contract through 2021.
