Patrick Chung's cocaine charges is an unfortunate obstacle in the defending Super Bowl champs' preseason. The Pats remain neutral on the case as the defensive back pleads not-guilty plea to the accusations.

The Associated Press had a quick update about the case:

New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung has waived a court appearance in New Hampshire on a cocaine possession charge and a lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

A Belknap County grand jury indicted the 32-year-old Chung on Aug. 8. Documents filed Monday canceled a scheduled arraignment Wednesday. A message was left for an attorney representing Chung.

The article also detailed how the police in Meredith, New Hampshire were called to his home and obtained evidence that convinced the court to sue him with a felony drug charge.

The Pats as an organization have decided to keep quiet about the case as the investigation is ongoing. However, individuals players have come out of the woodwork to express their support for their long-time leader, per the New York Post:

“Obviously, you know, we can’t really talk too much because it’s an ongoing investigation,” defensive back Duron Harmon told reporters. “But I mean, Pat knows everyone in here loves him. We love the energy he brings every single day. He’s a leader. He’s a captain. Whatever he’s going through, we know he’s going to get through because we’re going to help him get through it.

“And at the end of the day, that’s our guy. That’s our captain, and we love him. And we’re just hoping the best for him.”

Chung was about to start his eleventh year with the Patriots before the charge was made. He made 11 interceptions, forced 2 fumbles and recovered 5, and made a total of 476 solo tackles. They will definitely miss his production if Bill Belichick keeps him out of the rotation.
