New England Patriots rookie running back Sony Michel hurt his knee during Sunday’s 38-31 road win over the Chicago Bears and was forced to miss the rest of the game, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

This is a disheartening news for the Patriots, who just extended their unbeaten streak to four games dating back to Week 3.

Michel was trying to gain yards rushing the football late in the second quarter of the Chicago game when he seemingly twisted his left leg in disturbing fashion. Here’s a video of how Michel sustained the aforementioned injury.

Sony Michel has had knee issues even before he was selected 31st overall in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft by the Patriots, so this latest lower-body injury by the former Georgia Bulldogs star only adds to the doubt of whether he can have a long career in the pros.

Before his exit from the Bears game, Michel had 22 rushing yards on four carries. With him out for the rest of the contest, the Patriots turned to the backfield pair of James White and Kenjon Barner, who combined for 76 yards on 21 rushing attempts. The two are likely to share the duties in the Pats’ ground attack in case Michel needs time off the field to recover from the injury.

Up ahead for the Patriots is a meeting with the Buffalo Bills next Monday at New Era Field.
