New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski recently landed on the team’s injury report due to an ankle issue. However, there doesn’t appear to be anything for Patriots fans to be too worried about.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Gronkowski’s limited status in practice on Thursday was a precautionary measure and is not likely to affect his availability for Sunday’s matchup against the Detroit Lions.

The fact that Gronk appears to be alright is obviously great news for the Patriots, who will continue to be Tom Brady’s most reliable receiver on offense with Julian Edelman still two weeks away from making his return from suspension.

The Patriots added the talented Josh Gordon to their receiving corps earlier this week. However, it’s unreasonable to expect too much out of him right away. He’s still in the process of learning a new system and is only coming back from a recent hamstring injury.

After a great game in the season opener against the Texans (seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown), Gronkowski was held to a mere two catches for 15 yards by the Jacksonville Jaguars defense in the Patriots’ 31-20 defeat. James White, Phillip Dorsett, and Chris Hogan ended up being Brady's top targets against the Jaguars.

If Gronkowski’s ankle does turn out to be just fine after taking it easy in practice, he should be a good bet to have a bounce-back performance against the Lions, whose defense has struggled to start the season, giving up 78 points over the first two games.
