Could Stephon Gilmore be coming for Ty Law's spot as the greatest New England Patriots defensive player of all time?

If you listen to what Law says about the fourth-year Patriot, the answer could very well be yes. In text messages to the Boston Herald, Law heaped praise on Gilmore's work ethic and how he does not rest on his laurels.

“That’s what the great ones do, he is amongst the giants of the league and has a desire to be the best and stay there,” Law texted the Herald. “I’m loving what he is doing and looking forward to another big year for him.”

Gilmore won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year this past season with the Patriots, but it does not seem like he is finished. He is certainly not just accepting that acclaim, and is looking to help the Patriots win another Super Bowl while building on a great 2019 season.  Last season he caught a career-high six interceptions and returned two of those to the house for touchdowns.

Law was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year as part of the class of 2019 after an amazing career.  For the majority of his career he played for the Patriots and helped them win the first three Super Bowls of the franchise's history.  In his career he was named to the Pro Bowl five times and was the league's interception leader twice.  He was named to the 2000's All-Decade Team.  Many consider him to be the best defensive player in Patriots history.
