Veteran edge rusher James Harrison is still on the market, and he apparently plans to keep it that way for the foreseeable future.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Harrison will wait until after the draft to make a decision where he will sign next season. Fowler also reports that the New England Patriots are among a handful of teams in the mix for the 39-year-old’s signature.

After getting unceremoniously released by the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, Harrison caught on with the Patriots and played surprisingly well. He was particularly impactful during the postseason as they made it all the way to the Super Bowl.

The Patriots pass rush was a significant weak spot for the team last season, which was why they brought Harrison in. They still haven’t addressed that department much this offseason apart from Adrian Clayborn, who’s coming off a career-high 9.5-sack season with the Falcons.

While Harrison is already pushing 40, he could still be a significant addition to a New England team that still needs more help on the edge. A key factor in Harrison’s decision is apparently getting playing time, which looks like something the Patriots can provide once again.

But even though Harrison is a realistic target, the Pats likely need to continue looking for more options to prop up their disappointing pass rush in free agency and the draft. While Harrison impressed last season given his advanced age, it won’t seem wise for New England to rely heavily on a 39-year-old for basically an entire season.
