The New England Patriots are reportedly looking to add a “premium” wide receiver by tomorrow’s trade deadline. And apparently, one of the names that they have discussed is Denver Broncos veteran Demaryius Thomas, per Mike Giardi of NFL Network.

Multiple league sources confirm the Patriots have been active on the trade front for weeks. That’s not abnormal for them. One name that’s been discussed is Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas. Thomas was drafted by Pats OC Josh McDaniels when he was HC at Denver.

Thomas, who has been linked with the Patriots in the past, recently put his chances of getting traded before the deadline as “50-50.” Although, a recent report also suggests that it’s unlikely he gets dealt by the Broncos this season.

The 30-year-old Thomas has been among the most consistent receivers in the league since becoming a regular starter in 2012. However, he is having a someone down year by his standards this season. He has just 36 catches for 402 yards and three touchdowns through eight games, which are on pace for his lowest numbers since his sophomore season.

The Patriots don’t exactly have a pressing need for another wide receiver at the moment. They already have Josh Gordon, whom they traded for earlier in the season, along with Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Phillip Dorsett. They also have Rob Gronkowski and James White as consistent targets.

Still, the possible addition of another reliable receiving target like Thomas would give Tom Brady one of the deepest receiving corps in the entire league.
