Civilization 7 seems to be in the works if rumors are to be believed.

It's almost been five years since the release of Civilization 6. Hence, it's ripe time for Firaxis Games to develop the seventh title in the Triple-A Strategy series. They have, after all, just finished rolling out the final expansions and DLCs for Civ 6 earlier this year. If Firaxis isn't already working on a new XCOM game, then they should also be working on a new Civ game.

That's why rumors about the development of Civilization 7 being underway have been circulating recently. Firaxis also timed their release of Civilization 6 at six years after the launch of Civ 5, which makes a 2022 release date for Civilization 7 likely. However, lacking any official announcement by Firaxis, rumors will just be that – rumors.

Still, rumors may have a bit of truth in them. After all, Firaxis recently posted a new job listing for a Narrative Lead. The job description reads:

Firaxis Games is looking for a talented Narrative Lead to join our studio in developing our next AAA Strategy Title. This is an opportunity to join an established team behind some of the industry’s most beloved franchises such as the XCOM and the Civilization series.

While this “AAA Strategy Title” may as well be a new IP for all we know, it may also point towards Civilization 7. One counter-argument against Civ 7 is how most Civilization games don't really need narrative teams working on them. Still, Firaxis' flagship series has had rivals that infused the 4X genre with narrative storylines. This might indicate that Civ 7 will finally have one, too.

What do you think? Does the new job listing by Firaxis actually reveal that a new Civilization game is coming? Or will this be an entirely different game?
