The New Orleans Pelicans' losses continue to pile up this season, and they reached a new low in their recent 130-84 blowout against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. The defeat marked their worst regular season loss in franchise history.

Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry expressed his disappointment for his team's effort, emphasizing that they “don't want to become the pin cushion” for the NBA.

However, with the way the Pelicans are playing right now, that just seems to be the case. Gentry added that teams have come into their match-up with the expectations to come out with an easy win.

The Pelicans trailed by as much as 50 points against the Mavs and ended up losing by 46. It wasn't as if Dallas raced out to a huge lead early and ended the game by the end of the first half, either.

New Orleans trailed by just eight points at the intermission. However, the lead blew up to 38 points by the end of the third quarter, with the Mavericks using a 40-14 third quarter to instantly put the game to bed.

The loss marked New Orleans' eighth straight defeat. They also dropped to 6-17 on the season and are just 1.5 above the bottom seed of the Western Conference.

New Orleans came in this season with expectations to make a push for the playoffs. However, the injury to Zion Williamson has led them to struggle out of the gates.

Still, the no. 1 overall pick's absence is no excuse for the Pelicans' horrendous start to the season. They should at least show some fight and effort, which obviously weren't there in this record-setting loss against the Mavs.
