New Orleans Pelicans starting point guard Jrue Holiday has been diagnosed with a lower abdominal strain and will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days, according to a press release by the team.

Holiday played 32 minutes on Wednesday against the Utah Jazz and finished with 16 points and three assists in the Pelicans' 10-point loss.

In 67 games this season for the Pelicans, Holiday is averaging 21.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists per contest. The All-NBA defender is shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc and 76.8 percent from the free-throw line.

The Pelicans are 30-37 on the season. New Orleans isn't going to make the playoffs this season. Even though Holiday is a warrior, playing it safe with him and giving some of the young guys on the team more playing time is the smart move.

During the whole Anthony Davis trade saga, Holiday has been a breath of fresh air. He continues to show he's one of the best players in the NBA with his elite two-way play. Frank Jackson and Ian Clark will get more playing time with Holiday out moving forward.

New Orleans' next game is on Friday against Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors. Holiday is set to make $26,131,111 next season.
