The Philadelphia Phillies are struggling to say the least. They are 11-15 after 26 games and riding a four-game losing streak. The team's most recent loss Thursday night to the New York Mets is arguably the most painful. After going up 7-1 through eight innings, they managed to let up seven runs to New York and lose 8-7.

Amid the team's lack of quality baseball this season, many fans are pointing fingers at Joe Girardi. However, Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski isn't blaming the general manager.

“It’s not Joe’s fault that we’ve been shut out or scored one run seven times,” he said, quotes courtesy of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “We’re a club that, he’s been in charge as far as handling situations. We’re prepared to play. We go out there on a day-in, day-out basis. We battle. I know Joe’s disappointed with our record. We’re all disappointed.”

Dombrowski has a point. Girardi isn't the one at home plate, and he isn't the one on the mound. However, there are things he can do to improve his team's chances of performing at a higher level. For instance, many criticize the Phillies GM for his lack of consistency. He rarely keeps the same batting order, which undoubtedly affects the guys on offense.

The Phillies have had a few days to breathe after their horrid ninth-inning loss to the Mets. Their last two games have been postponed due to inclement weather. Girardi and the Phils will attempt to turn their season around in their doubleheader on Sunday.
