Detroit Pistons rookie Jaden Ivey had to leave their Summer League showdown against the Washington Wizards on Saturday after sustaining a concerning injury.

According to reports, Ivey left the game due to an apparent ankle injury. As he drove to the basket in the first quarter, he landed on the foot of Isaiah Todd, who was called for a Flagrant-1 foul for the incident.

Ivey, the no. 5 overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft, writhed in pain after the awkward fall. He still managed to sink his three free throws, but his frustration was clear as he slammed the scorer's table as he left the floor to get his injury checked.

Jaden Ivey had 11 points and two assists after playing a little over five minutes for the Pistons before his exit. He was definitely on his way to a big game, so the injury was quite a damper. However, that is certainly the last of Detroit's worries, as they'll hope the issue is nothing significant or serious.

Ivey figures to be a key member of the Pistons' rebuild, and so if there is a risk of him reinjuring his ankle and worsening it, Detroit could very well opt to take him out of the Summer League.

For what it's worth, the Pistons have high hopes for Ivey and his pairing with Cade Cunningham. In fact, the 2021 top overall pick himself can already see how he and Ivey can thrive together.

“He’s fast. I’m not fast. Having someone like that spreads the floor out a lot,” Cunningham said of Ivey.

Hopefully, nothing is really wrong with the 20-year-old guard and that he returns soon.
