Detroit Pistons forward Markieff Morris has been fined $35,000 for directing inappropriate and offensive language toward a game official, it was announced on Monday by Kiki VanDeWeghe, the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred during Detroit's 117-111 home loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday:

The Pistons are 1-2 on the season. Morris is struggling, as he's shooting just 37.9 percent from the field. The veteran small forward has been starting since Pistons All-Star Blake Griffin is out of the lineup at the moment.

Markieff, just like his brother Marcus Morris, has a short temper. The Pistons will need him to stay under control for the rest of the season if they want to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

Detroit hosts the Indiana Pacers on Monday, the team it defeated on opening night in Indiana.

Morris signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Pistons in free agency. He split time with the Washington Wizards and Oklahoma City Thunder last season.

In 2018-19, Morris averaged 9.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 42.1 percent from the field, 33.5 percent from beyond the arc and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line. His brother played for the Pistons before, so the franchise knows what they’re going to get from the 30-year-old.
