The Nashville Predators have some major decisions looming this offseason, most notably involving star forward Filip Forsberg. With Forsberg set to hit free agency, the Preds have been negotiating a long-term contract extension with him, but it doesn't seem as if things have progressed well thus far. According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, the Preds and Forsberg may be at an impasse in negotiations, with the two sides remaining “far apart” in terms of both contract length and value.

It's wholly possible that Forsberg has played his final game in a Predators uniform. With contract talks seemingly stagnating and the NHL Draft inching closer, the Predators are running out of time until their star forward hits the open market.

Seravalli indicates that the Predators are beginning to accept the reality that they may not be able to keep Forsberg this offseason, and have even begun exploring potential replacements, both through free agency and the trade market.

NHL free agency begins on July 13, at which point any team would be able to open negotiations with Forsberg, should the Predators fail to reach an agreement with the 27-year-old. He'd be one of the most sought-after players on the open market, considering his prolific campaign in 2021-22.

Last year for the Preds, Forsberg scored 42 goals and provided 42 assists. His 84-point season was by far a career-high, having never before topped 64 points in a single campaign. Forsberg has enjoyed 10 tremendous seasons for the Predators, but it doesn't seem likely the team is willing to meet his demands.
