Newcastle are set to host Leicester City in a potentially massive Premier League clash this weekend. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our Premier League odds series, which includes our Newcastle-Leicester prediction and pick we have laid out below.

Newcastle was down in the dumps for most of the season. They only got their first win in December and their first away win at the end of January. However, after they were taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, the Magpies put together a good second half of the season, lifting themselves up to 15th place, above the relegation zone. Their opponents, Leicester, have not had the greatest of second halves of the season. They are currently sitting ninth after finishing last season fifth, a single point behind Champions League football. They enter this match with a win in their last game versus Crystal Palace.

Why Newcastle Can Win This Match

Newcastle has been very good since the calendar turned to 2022. Overall, in the new year, Newcastle has eight wins, two draws, and three defeats. The three defeats came in a row, and they were to Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Everton. Even though Everton is in poor form, they are still a very talented team, so these three games were not easy for the Magpies to continue their streak of positive results. Still, besides the 5-1 defeat in London to Tottenham, Newcastle was not embarrassed in this three-match poor run. On the contrary, they put up a good fight, especially playing versus the current European champion, Chelsea.

In terms of their team, they are heavily reliant on their defense this season, especially since they started making a run towards the upper half of the table. Their 5-1 defeat to Spurs in London actually doubled their goals conceded in 2022, as they only allowed five past Martin Dubravka before that game. Their attack has been a different story. It is entirely true that Newcastle has some talented attackers, such as Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, and Chris Wood, to name a few, but most of them have struggled. They can be thankful that their defense, headlined by Fabian Schar and the aforementioned Dubravka, has kept them ahead in the relegation battle.

Overall, Newcastle can win this game because they have the ability to win tight matches with a flash of brilliance from their attackers and the ability to keep a clean sheet. Leicester will be tough, due to the fact that Jamie Vardy still has a great nose for goal, but Newcastle should be able to pull through in the end.

Why Leicester Can Win This Match

Leicester is a very interesting team. After coming incredibly close to Champions League football last season, having to settle for the Europa League in fifth, they are really average this year. If we look at their form, Leicester have been right in the middle, with their highest claimed spot being 8th and lowest 12th. In essence, for a team that has only fairly recently came up to the Premier League, that is not too bad. For a team that has a Premier League medal and a ton of great games last season and in seasons past, it does not look good. However, they still pulled through some great results this season.

The biggest reason why they could pull off this win is their form. Apart from a 2-0 defeat at the Emirates, Leicester has been playing some good football in the past few weeks. After falling to Wolverhampton at the end of February, the Foxes won four out of their next six, with only two non-wins being the aforementioned loss to Arsenal and a 1-1 draw at the Old Trafford. Their form is good and they could take advantage of the fact that Newcastle won just one out of their last four games, as mentioned above.

This could be a game that will lead Leicester to finish the season off strong. It is beyond any doubt that Leicester has the talent, despite missing Ndidi and possibly Vardy. Omissions will surely hurt, but with guys like James Madison, Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka, and Ayoze Perez available, coach Brendan Rogers has tons of options to choose from.

Final Newcastle-Leicester Prediction & Pick

At the end of the day, the scoreline of this game will be determined by who simply wants it more. With their revamped roster, Newcastle can match the talent of a team like Leicester, despite being a huge step behind the top teams in the league. On the other hand, Leicester needs to finish the season strong, as their fans really expected them to be in contention for European football. For the final Newcastle-Leicester prediction, we can say that it will be a rough, tough, and goal-scarce game. Our pick for the match will be a Newcastle win. They might be further from the relegation zone, but they need this win far more than Leicester, which are safely in the middle of the pack. Back Newcastle to win it.

Final Newcastle-Leicester Pick: Newcastle (+120)
