The Oakland Raiders, despite encountering quite the tumultuous offseason, are a perfect 1-0 after defeating the rival Denver Broncos on Monday evening. With quarterback Derek Carr and tight end Darren Waller helping the Raiders to victory, the two already seem to have developed some serious chemistry — both on and off the field.

“I loved it. I think we all here, everybody, roots for Darren Waller,” Carr recently told The Athletic of Waller and his story.

Waller was previously a member of the Baltimore Ravens before an addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs pushed him out of the league.

However, Waller is now clean and sober while gearing up to make a name for himself with the Raiders.

“You know how many people that helps for him to be that vulnerable?” Carr added. “I said that’s unbelievable. That blesses my life to see someone that vulnerable and that open. It wasn’t hard for him. He was just talking (on ‘Hard Knocks’), telling people his story. Imagine if everyone could open up like that, how many more people could get help, how many more people we can help.”

Waller and the Raiders will look to keep it rolling next week as Oakland will be forced to take on the always dangerous Kansas City Chiefs, who took down the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road in Week 1.

Of course, both the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers remain the teams to beat in the AFC West division with the Raiders and Broncos more than likely playing catch-up.
