The Oakland Raiders suffered a massive setback on Sunday, losing to the New York Jets by a score of 34-3 to drop them to 6-5 on the season.

Naturally, one might think “same old Raiders,” but quarterback Derek Carr hopes that this loss will serve as a learning experience and insists that Oakland is still a good football club:

“You can look in some people’s eyes and some people react differently to getting punched in the mouth,” Carr said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “Sadly enough, I’ve been on some teams where we’ve had our fair share of getting hit in the mouth. As frustrating as it is, let’s be honest, these six games that we’ve won, no one thought we could do that with who we have.

We’re still good at football. We’re still a good football team, but it is what it is. We’re still building that foundation. Hopefully today is one of those moments that wakes everybody up and we rally back together like we have this season and we keep playing.”

Carr had a miserable outing in the defeat, completing just 15 of his 27 throws for 127 yards and an interception. The Raiders' prolific ground attack was also shut down, as rookie running back Josh Jacobs tallied just 34 yards off of 10 carries.

The problem for the Raiders, however, was that this matchup against the Jets (who, to be fair, have won three straight games) was supposed to be one of the easiest games on their schedule moving forward.

Oakland will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium next weekend, and on Dec. 8, the Raiders will host the suddenly streaking Tennessee Titans, who drew even with Oakland in the AFC Wild Card hunt on Sunday.
