Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis wanted to bring back head coach Jon Gruden for quite some time. Although Jack Del Rio made an impression in his short stint with the Raiders, the team was determined to sign Gruden if he was genuinely ready to make the move from the broadcast booth back to the sideline.

Fortunately for the Raiders, Gruden was indeed ready to return, and he did just that in historic fashion signing a 10-year, $100 million contract with Oakland. Gruden's deal made a lot of headlines for obvious reasons which also added a lot of pressure and came with a fair amount of criticism. The one-time Super Bowl champion recently talked about his deal with the team, via Peter King of Football Morning in America.

“I’m not making $100 million, just so you know. Well, I never thought Tom Cruise, never thought his movies were any good but he’s making plenty of money. There’s a lot of things that I don’t understand. No disrespect to Tom Cruise. I’m sure he’s a great actor. But you know what? You just go about your life as hard as you can. You try to find something you love and you do the best you can at it. I never got into coaching for the money. I got into coaching because I wanted to be a quarterback coach. What the salary cap has become, what free agency has become—it’s amazing.”

Most coaches in the NFL only last a few years at their post with an extremely turnover rate. Only a select few have been able to stand the test of time with one team with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick being the prime example of longevity in the league.

However, Gruden will have the opportunity to prove his worth in Oakland with the backing of Davis and a talented squad at his disposal. He has two star players to build around in quarterback Derek Carr and defensive end Khalil Mack, if he doesn't get traded, who were able to put it together in 2016 to finish with an impressive 12-4 record and end the playoff drought.

It'll be interesting to see how the Gruden experiment pans out in Oakland in his second time around. The pressure will be on right out of the gate for the 55-year-old as he tries to get this Raiders franchise back on track.
