The Oakland Raiders appear to be at a standstill in their extension talks with star defensive end Khalil Mack has now reached a point where trade rumors have entered the picture.

The Green Bay Packers have been at the forefront of that discussion with the betting odds now having them as the favorites to land Mack if the Raiders were to explore moving him. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst only added more fuel to that fire stating that his team is always interested in looking into every avenue that can help the team win, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk

“I think with any players that are available, we’re going to look at every avenue to help our football team,” Gutekunst said. “I think we’ve always been a draft and development team here for a long time, but if there are players that can help us, and right now, I think we will use every avenue to help our team.”

This has only brought more life to the conversation as it means that the Packers could be a serious landing spot if the Raiders do elect to give that any thought. The preference is clearly to work out a long-term deal with Mack to keep him with the team for the long haul, but Green Bay could be an option if things don't progress in the manner they hope.

There is an obvious connection between both franchises with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie having formerly been in the Packers' front office for many years before joining Oakland. It provides a strong level of comfort and understanding that could help get a deal done if the team goes that route.

In the meantime, the Raiders' central focus will be on getting a new long-term deal in place to keep Mack with the team for the next several years.
