The Oakland Raiders have gotten out to a sluggish start to the 2018 season that has seen them drop five out of their first six games played.

Things have taken yet another disappointing turn with former Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch being ruled out for the next month due to a groin injury, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

This is another significant blow to the team as Lynch has proven to be an effective option in the running game through the first several weeks of the season. In the first six games played, he has tallied 376 rushing yards on 90 attempts and three touchdowns along with 15 receptions for 84 receiving yards. He has provided stability in the running game the team has leaned upon that has seen him post 130 rushing yards against the Cleveland Browns in their lone win of the season.

However, Lynch has been dealing with an ongoing groin injury that he has dealt with seemingly all season long as he was initially listed prior to the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams to be dealing with this issue. It is something that may have hit a head in the 27-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks that led to him undergoing an MRI to see the extent of the injury. This will have him shelved for the next three games at the very least with the Raiders currently being on their bye week.

The Raiders could likely take a split-carry duty approach with him out of the lineup with Doug Martin likely getting the bulk of the work in the ground game while Jalen Richard could draw pass-catching duties. Martin has been sparsely used in his first campaign in Oakland behind Lynch tallying just 99 rushing yards on 27 carries along with posting four catches for five receiving yards.
