The Las Vegas Raiders are now settled in as one of the four teams in the AFC West. However, not too long ago, that wasn't the case. Before 2020, the Raiders were based out of Oakland. And, according to a recent report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the franchise almost moved to St. Louis.

According to the report, the league considered relocating the Oakland Raiders to St. Louis, because the city was recently without an NFL team. The St. Louis Rams relocated in 2016, becoming the Los Angeles Rams for the second time in franchise history.

“NFL owners would go back and forth on the deal and whether the San Diego Chargers or Oakland Raiders should join them [Rams],” the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. “At one meeting in November, there was even talk of bringing the Raiders to St. Louis with restructured ownership, a brand makeover and a commitment to a “special diversity initiative,” according to Goodell’s copy of the agenda.”

Ultimately, the San Diego Chargers became the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Raiders stayed put in Oakland until 2020. Then, in January of 2020, the team announced its move to Las Vegas.

Now, the Chargers and the Raiders get to face off twice a year in the regular season as AFC West rivals. Not too long ago, they were vying for a spot in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the Rams are 2022 Super Bowl champions.
