Raiders backup quarterback Marcus Mariota tossed an absolute dime to tight end Darren Waller for a touchdown, following his insertion into the game due to a groin injury to starter Derek Carr.

Known as a “bust” in NFL circles, due to his inability to convert his prodigious talent into on-the-field success, the strike by Mariota is yet another reminder of the talent the QB possesses that has both enticed and frustrated observers for years.

Though the aforementioned Carr is currently listed as being “questionable to return” by the team's Twitter account, Mariota appears likely to finish the game due to the nature of the injury of Carr's injury. While groin strains can vary in severity, the ailment is notorious for taking several days to heal, even in mild cases. Should that be the case here, Mariota will have an opportunity to pace a scoring unit that has struggled with its lack of explosiveness all season.

Facing a must-win situation, given their hopes of playoff contention, Las Vegas should benefit from the strong arm of the former Oregon Duck, as they attempt to stretch the field. Whether it's enough to overcome his erratic accuracy, however, is yet to be seen.

Following the touchdown by Mariota and Waller, the Chargers responded by scoring on consecutive drives, and currently lead 17-10 heading into the break.
