Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay no longer has running back Todd Gurley at his disposal. The NFC West franchise released the veteran earlier this offseason. With Gurley since joining the Atlanta Falcons, the Rams will now look ahead to the future, which will certainly be a bit different as McVay will begin to encounter somewhat of an uphill battle in Los Angeles moving forward.

As a result of the team's decision to part ways with Gurley, McVay was recently forced to discuss the situation with the media.

“The first thing I would say is it’s really just unbelievable what he’s done over the five years that he was a Ram,” McVay said on The Rich Eisen Show. “I couldn’t be more appreciative of our time together, and I do think that eventually we will be able to look back and really be able to cherish a lot of the great memories that we’ve shared. He has been so important in the success we’ve had as a team, and I owe a lot of that to him and I’m forever grateful for having worked with him.”

Of course, Gurley was a staple of the Rams offense when McVay originally took over as the team's head coach a few seasons back. Now, it will be life after Gurley for McVay and company as quarterback Jared Goff will surely be asked to sling the rock even more than he was in the past.

Even with Gurley on board, the Rams still missed the postseason in 2019-20, one season after Los Angeles reached the Super Bowl.
