Many Los Angeles Rams fans were probably blindsided by the surprising trade that sent popular defensive back Aqib Talib to the Miami Dolphins. The move was an effort to dump salary and give the team enough flexibility to sign players like Jalen Ramsey in the offseason.

Fans are disappointed to see him go, but they understand why the move was made. Talib is close to hitting 34, and he's currently out of the team due to a rib injury. They need to sign the best players if they want to keep on contending for the Super Bowl, and their $4.2 million pro-rated savings is worth the additional 2020 fifth-round pick they sent if it will help them get the players they need.

Sean McVay didn't waste any time and gave all the best words he could say about his now-former defensive back.

“Aqib has meant a whole lot,” McVay said. “He’s meant a whole lot to our team. I think just the confidence, the swagger, the veteran leadership that he’s brought. He’s been, really, a big part of what’s gone on since he got here and he’s been nothing but positive since he got here. Like I’ve said, I think he’s a Hall of Fame player.

“Everything that we do is in the best interest of the team long term and short term and just based on some of the things that came from that, that was really what went into the decision. Nothing but a lot of good things from our end on Aqib, what he’s meant to us and, specifically, what he’s meant to me.”

Talib spent one-and-a-half years with the Rams, completing 37 tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble. He won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos in 2016 and made stops at New England and Tampa Bay.
