The Los Angeles Rams have had a disappointing season, and there could be changes made to the coaching staff in 2020. During the final week of practice for the Rams, Wade Phillips addressed the rumors of his potential firing.

“I’ve had a lot of rumors out there,” he said laughing. “I don’t pay any attention to rumors. Wherever I’ve been, I’m going to do the best I can do and if that’s not good enough for somebody, then it isn’t. But we want to finish with a winning season.”

When Sean McVay was hired by the Rams in 2017, he brought in Phillips to be his defensive coordinator. Many saw it as questionable hire as McVay and Phillips have a 39-year age difference.

Nevertheless, the duo helped turn Los Angeles around and made a Super Bowl. Following a Super Bowl appearance in 2018, the Rams were too inconsistent to return to the playoffs.

Phillips has had over 35 years of experience as a head coach or coordinator in the NFL. Despite being 72-years-old, Phillips still has the motivation to continue coaching in 2020—whether it be with the Rams or elsewhere.

“I love coaching. That’s what I do and that’s what I enjoy doing,” Phillips said. “We did a lot of good things this year. Obviously not enough to be in the playoffs, but I thought we did a lot of good things as a team and defensively. I enjoy working with players, I think we’ve got a really good group and like I said last week, they were fighters. Didn’t end up winning that ball game, but I thought we showed a lot of fight as a defense and a team. I enjoy coaching and I want to continue.”

On Sunday, Los Angeles will square off against the Arizona Cardinals to finish the season. There's no doubt that the players want to get one more win in possibly Phillips' final game with the team.
