Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey has earned a unique honor from his peers. According to several reports, Casey has been selected as the National Basketball Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

The New York Times reports that Casey will be formally announced as the winner of the N.B.C.A. trophy on Wednesday, with voting for the award coming from the NBA's 30 head coaches.

“The Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year Award for the top NBA Coach as voted by his peers is one of the most meaningful in all of pro sports,” said Dallas Mavericks Head Coach and National Basketball Coaches Association President Rick Carlisle. “Dwane Casey once again maximized the Toronto roster to achieve the top record in the Eastern Conference. Congratulations to Dwane on this prestigious recognition.”

Casey, now 61 years of age, led the Raptors to a No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this season with an overall record of 59-23 (franchise record for wins in a regular season) and a fifth Atlantic Division title. However, Toronto's season came to an end when they fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, 4-0.

“To be honored by your peers is incredibly gratifying, and I am so thankful to my colleagues across the league for this recognition. I’m also grateful to the talented and dedicated coaching staff I work with every day in Toronto,” coach Casey told NBA.com. “To be recognized with an award that bears Michael H. Goldberg’s name is very special.”

Casey is allegedly up for the NBA's Coach of the Year award as well, according to the New York Times. In fact, Casey was one of eight coaches to receive votes for the title. Other head coaches receiving votes include Brett Brown (Philadelphia 76'ers), Mike D’Antoni (Houston Rockets), Nate McMillan (Indiana Pacers), Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs), Quin Snyder (Utah Jazz), Terry Stotts (Portland Trail Blazers) and Doc Rivers (L.A. Clippers). The NBA will announce the winner of the Red Auerbach Coach of the Year Award on June 25 in Los Angeles.
