Just a week ago, it was reported that Toronto Raptors backup big man Greg Monroe was working with head coach Nick Nurse to shoot more outside shots this upcoming season.

Despite many people questioning whether Monroe can actually make this leap, especially after never making a three-ball in his career thus far, it looks like he is making significant progress on his aspirations.

The former 2010 first-round selection of the Detroit Pistons recently posted a video on his official Instagram account that shows him working out, practicing some post moves, and yes, canning consecutive 3-pointers in the process.

Here is that video below:

The NBA has greatly transitioned from traditional half-court sets where big men camp out in the paint and guards surround the perimeter, to a virtual position-less basketball. Having a center that can not only step out beyond the arc but also shoot it consistently, has now become a non-negotiable in this league – and this is what Moose hopes to evolve into.

This may be small sample size, but Monroe looks in-shape and ready to contribute on a Raptors squad craving for steady production from the middle and stead outside shooting.

If he can add this weapon to an already adequate arsenal of solid rebounding and inside presence, he’ll be able to carve out a nice role behind starters Jonas Valanciunas and Serge Ibaka.

Right now, we can only hope that Monroe continues this steadfast improvement and finally prove to us that old dogs can learn new tricks.
