The Baltimore Ravens are optimistic they still hold the cards regarding contract talks with quarterback Lamar Jackson. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta feels Dak Prescott's new deal won't play a part in impacting Jackson's situation with the team, via Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

DeCosta also said he has spoken to Jackson, but there haven't been any concrete negotiations. Jackson's stance regarding the situation is also unknown to many since he currently doesn't have an agent who will lead the discussions when the time comes.

The 24-year-old gunslinger is heading to the last season of his four-year, $9 million rookie contract signed back in 2018. Despite the uncertainty of the situation, many are expecting the Ravens will give due credit to Jackson, especially after playing incredibly well on an individual basis for the past few seasons. In just his second season in the league back in 2019, Jackson earned a Pro Bowl appearance, First-Team All-Pro honors, and NFL MVP honors.

Jackson took a slight step back in 2020, but he still had another outstanding campaign and led Baltimore back to the playoffs. He even won his first playoff game by defeating the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card Round.

However, the Ravens have yet to go deep in the playoffs with Jackson at the helm, thus raising question marks if he truly has what it takes to carry the team moving forward. On the other hand, quarterback Dak Prescott finally ended his longstanding contract dispute with the Dallas Cowboys by inking a four-year, $160 million deal on Monday afternoon.

Jackson almost certainly thinks he also deserves to sign a lucrative contract, especially after seeing the paycheck Prescott received even after having an injury-stricken campaign last season. It remains to be seen if the two sides will work out a deal.
