The Baltimore Ravens were able to put the finishing touches on a flawless preseason against the Washington Redskins. It appears quarterback Trace McSorley may have also done enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

McSorley has shown plenty of promise through training camp and the preseason. Head coach John Harbaugh's comments strongly indicate that he has earned a spot on the roster, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com:

“I don’t think it’s a matter of whether Trace has earned a place on the team,” Harbaugh said. “He would have a role for us. It’s just a matter of strategy right now. It’s something Eric [DeCosta] and Ozzie [Newsome] will talk a lot about over the next few hours.”

General manager Eric DeCosta echoed Harbaugh's praise of McSorley.

“I think he’s a football player and everything that entails,” DeCosta said. “His skill set is varied and multiple. He’s fast, he’s strong, he’s tough, he’s a playmaker, he’s a football player. We’ve seen teams, for instance the New Orleans Saints with Taysom Hill, we’ve seen other teams find ways to play with players like this and they can help you win football games. He fits our defense, he fits our offense, he fits special teams.”

There is no question that McSorley had his work cut out trying to make the cut for a Ravens team that is secure under center. Fortunately, it appears the sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has done enough for the coaches to find a way to utilize him.

McSorley boasts a unique skill set as a quarterback thanks to his versatility. It seems Harbaugh is looking to take advantage of it the same way the New Orleans Saints do with quarterback Taysom Hill.

More importantly, the former Penn State product was able to display his chops under center by taking advantage of his ample opportunities in the preseason. He capped it off by completing 15-of-27 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown. Although he may not get many snaps at quarterback, McSorley could still etch out an integral role on offense and special teams.
