The Boston Red Sox have picked themselves up after a rough start to the season and are now in the playoff hunt. However, it's still clear that they have to make some moves at the 2022 MLB trade deadline.

Although Rafael Devers is nothing short of outstanding and Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez are hitting well, the lineup is comprised of a lot of players hitting below average. Their pitching has been merely average. In a competitive race for the AL Wild card, Boston needs to address its shortcomings.

Manager Alex Cora dismissed the idea that the Red Sox have to make moves at the deadline. He insisted that the players already on the team simply need to step up.

Boston does indeed have the talent to make the playoffs again. Trevor Story had a very rough start but was looking better before getting hurt. Alex Verdugo and Bobby Dalbec are among the many hitters having down years and could pick it up after the All-Star break.

The Red Sox could send a huge trade offer for Juan Soto to give AL pitchers fits for a decade. They could also make a trade just for help this season as they did at last year's trade deadline with Kyle Schwarber.

Chris Sale would be a massive help if he returns to his All-Star form but he may miss more time after getting a line drive to the hand. Boston could use some more help in their pitching rotation and more help at the plate. If the Sox stay complacent and/or don't improve, they may spend October on the couch.
