The sports world was rocked in June of 2019 when Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz was shot in his native Dominican Republic. He survived the attack and has made a full recovery, but the incident is still no less scary.

After an investigation into the incident, former Boston police commissioner Ed Davis shared his findings, which received help from former CIA official Ric Prado. He disclosed that drug kingpin César “The Abuser” Peralta put a bounty out for Ortiz after feeling disrespected by the former Red Sox star, according to the Boston Globe's Bob Hohler. Ortiz claims that he and Peralta are no more than acquaintances but Peralta's lawyer claims they are close friends.

The finding doesn't sit well with Ortiz, though. Boston's 2013 World Series MVP received different information from the Dominican law enforcement. In their eyes, Peralta was not connected to the incident, per the Boston Globe report.

“I accept what Ed and Ric are telling me, but how come no one in the Dominican justice system has told me this is how it went down?” Ortiz said. “Instead, it’s the opposite.”

Ortiz’s communications adviser, Joe Baerlein, said Ortiz later asked the Globe to add to his comments that “while David appreciates the thoroughness of [Davis’s] report, he awaits further legal action in the Dominican and US courts to bring final clarity and answers on why this happened to him.”

Ortiz, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in January as a first-time ballot member, spent 14 seasons in Boston and six with the Minnesota Twins.
