Former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann doesn't completely trust Trent Williams' explanation of why he sat out last season. Williams, 31, had a cancer scare from a growth on his scalp that required surgery to remove. The star offensive tackle claimed the Redskins medical staff brushed off the growth years before, and that he wouldn't ever play for the franchise again.

Most have bought the explanation by Williams, but Theismann thinks it also had to do with the lack of guaranteed money left on the deal.

“Now, he said it wasn’t about money,” Theismann said, via the Redskins Talk podcast. “It’s always about money.”

Williams is entering the final year of his deal, so it would make sense that he would want an extension before stepping on the field again.

The big question now is will he come back to the Redskins now that Ron Rivera is in charge. Rivera told JP Finlay of NBC Sports that he would like to have a sitdown with him soon.

“We got to get Trent in, we got to sit him down, see where he is, see how he is, healthwise too. We have not really had the contact we need to have to know…He’s still our guy.”

Rivera made it clear he wasn't going to give up on Williams and that he was “still our guy.” Who knows if that will be enough to get Williams to come back, but it appears they are going to do anything in their power to get him back on the field.
