The Washington Redskins are currently slated to pick No. 2 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Doing so would put them in-line to draft generational Ohio State pass-rusher Chase Young, assuming the Cincinnati Bengals pluck quarterback Joe Burrow from LSU.

If Washington were to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, however, that could change. The Detroit Lions could see him fall to them if they were to lose on Sunday. The Redskins would win by losing to the Cowboys, at least in the long-term.

Adrian Peterson isn't thinking like that.

People saying ‘oh lose because you get the draft pick.' No screw that. We got coaches up here fighting for a job, players as well,” Peterson said on Thursday, via Jane Slater of the NFL Network. “So, off that alone, not because of the love we have for the game we are going to go out there and do what we need to do to win this divisional game.”

Though losing would do Washington well in the future, that's not on the minds of the coaching staff led by interim head coach Bill Callahan, nor is it on the players. It shouldn't be. Football games aren't played to lose. It's an incredibly violent game. Tanking means risking injury to a player for the sake of losing.

However, Washington isn't going anywhere in 2019. Their eyes should be set in Las Vegas, the host city of the draft. If they want a shot at contending in 2020, getting the best prospect available — which is Chase Young — would go a long way.
